About our Program:

The standard pediatric “top down” approach to end Encopresis uses oral stool softeners to liquefy the stool. It assumes that your child’s colon is similar to a stopped up bathroom sink. Leakage and accidents are not a serious issue for the physician because he/she is preventing a blockage and a possible rupture of the colon.

This “top down” approach is called “maintenance therapy” by the medical community. The standard pediatric
approach accidentally works in 40 to 60 percent of cases within about a year. Paradoxically, it may train the
child to counter-productively “hold,” and fight off, voiding urges more strongly and less successfully because
of this resulting leakage. It may be training for failure for some children!

The Soiling Solutions® (SS) protocol works within two weeks or less to eliminate soiling altogether. Parents
devote just one focused treatment hour a day with very short sits in the beginning. Soon shorter times and
fewer sits occur as the child’s “voiding reflex” is re-trained to take over from his overly conditioned “holding
reflex”. The SS® protocol for Encopresis has emerged as the only reliable and successful home-based program
that will work when the standard “top down” pediatric approach with stool softeners and laxatives fails.

No child should be allowed to have Encopresis persist to six years of age (and beyond) because of the emotional
and physical consequences which inevitably result. Physicians SHOULD NOT insist on continuing the standard
pediatric approach for over one year, at most, with assurances that, “Your child will grow out of it.”

The SS® approach employs a carefully structured manual-based program which uses safe, widely available over
the counter suppositories and enemas as well-timed and immediate acting “primers.” This way, your child has a
guaranteed successful voiding experience while sitting on the toilet stool. The program is carefully timed and
sequenced so that the child’s own body cues and responses begin to take over from the artificial “primers.”
This requires a stepping down process from a more powerful primer, to a lesser primer, to the child’s own natural
internal primers (e.g., smaller volumes of stool).

This is a rational program that works.

We do not want to exclude your physician and would like him or her to monitor treatment and be available to you.
Your doctor should understand our protocol and have his own copy of the “Clean Kid Manual” (CKM). He/she or
